About Us

More than just a tea party

Kona Bakes was born from a love of baking and entertaining. Founder Ashley Butler once dreamed of going to pastry school and then life happened, she went to business school and got an office job, all the while holding down side gigs to satisfy her penchant for the hospitality industry. Ashley never forgot her true passion for baking, and after years of friends and family saying she should do it for a living, her dream has finally become a reality!

A story of theme party to business

My husband and I always have grandiose birthdays; we plan lavish trips, grand gestures and extreme activities. Birthdays are truly the one occasion that we go all out on.  COVID really mucked that up for us in 2020 and I was determined not to let it ruin my birthday for a second year in a row.

I've visited many tea houses (with my non-tea-loving British husband who really just goes for the food and to appease me) and have collected tea wares over the years that just sit in a box in the garage. So, combining my love of a good theme party (and a dusty, unused tea collection), baking, and afternoon tea together, I decided to host an over-the-top tea party for my friends. We dressed up, drank wine, laughed until we couldn't breathe, and stuffed our faces. It turned out better than I could have ever imagined, and then the lightbulb went off in my head...why not start my own business doing mobile afternoon tea parties?? I can bake and host parties, which are two of my favorite things in life, but why stop at just tea parties?
